Bruised twice, first by my boyfriend Elmer. It wasn't the first, but it will be the last one he puts on me. The second bruise doesn't show, it's from the justice system here in Delaware.

I stayed unhappily with Elmer for more than a year, because when I tried to leave he would stalk. I was afraid to go to the police because he talked so much about the retribution for that - he would kill cops, he would kill me. Finally, it didn't matter because he had started pointing a loaded gun at me along with the beatings. On the night I received this battering, I turned him in and the police recovered the weapons and ammo.

He was charged with felonies, but when I talked to the DA, she indicated that he would win a jury trial and she wants to plea down the charges. I haven't seen the police report yet. Seems to me like it was pretty cut and dried, he bruised and cut me up, pulled out hair, and had all his guns pulled out. It feels like the state is telling me I'm not worth their time and neither is what he does to women.

I'm going to heal from both injuries. What I'm not going to do is forget that domestic abuse is still considered a two party crime here in Delaware. I've found my political cause. Write me if you want to join me.
