It's amazing isn't it? What once was so important to us... just isn't anymore.

Cool water from a hose. Fluid shapes. The simplicity and profoundness of natural beauty.

But profound? As children we never thought so. Water was simply water. It just made us feel good to have it land on us.

Trees were just trees. They had no scientific names other than the ones we made up for them. I used to so happily climb those "pitchy trees" without once having referred to them in latin.

Days were simply days. They told us nothing of our iminent mortality. A day passing by did not mean a day closer to death. Just a day.

Grass. Simply grass. We played on it because it was softer than cement. We never once thought about methodically trimming it's edges so that it looked like a pretty little picture.

And so quickly this childlike wisdom is pushed aside for "more important" things. A job which bores us to no end. A concentration on the posession of material things which drives us to toil at these jobs.

Looking back, what purpose have I served perpetually banging away at the keyboard while my life passed me by? Have I learned some great knowledge or wisdom that couldn't be learned by appreciating a flower in full bloom?

The laughter of children still rings true in my ears. For they have a gift in their hands which we have long since opened for ourselves. Only, don't return this gift in favor of something "greater". Because there isn't anything greater than the preciousness, the one-time-throughness of youth. And youth doesn't leave you. You leave youth.

Next time I see a child laughing and rolling in the grass, I think I'll stop what I'm doing; lay down on the grass and speculate on what cloud is a rocket, and which a unicorn. There is magic in that. Not a scientist in the world could refute it, or give it an appropriate latin origin.
