What beautiful shades and colors do the heavens form when using the blues and greens of the Gulf seas, added with the last evening rays of the sun, then topped off with the beginning darkness of a new born night sky. The soft pastel colors of the clouds, supplying their own sights to the mix. Even the colors of the man-made flat yellow heliport deck, with its reflections of rainwater pooled across its uneven surface, add to the wondrous work of art the Creator hath composed. The cool salty mist, that some would say is God’s breath, ever so diligently lingers and masks the pure sharpness that only human eyes can see.

So goes this life in the Gulf of Mexico. A half-life spent on the sea, drilling for oil and gas and any other petroleum based unit, from aboard a mobile “Drilling Rig”, to supply our world with it’s own life’s blood. Working 14 days on and 12 to 18 hour days, a 24/7 responsibility to keep things running smoothly, be productive, and most importantly, ensure the safety of all onboard and protect our environment. Like small communities on the sea, our lives are intertwined together and bonds are formed. Like two separate but one close knit family we all are bound by the choices that we make. As our work day comes to an end, and we look out over the horizon and watch the day turn into night, we marvel at the beauties we’ve seen everyday and realize we should never more take them for granted. That life in the Gulf of Mexico is the one we’ve chosen and to make it the best it can be.

After the 14 days are done we all head for our homes, leaving a little part of us here, knowing the 14 we have off, will go by in a snap. Then it’s back to the “Rig” to start anew and continue to marvel at the “Colors of The Gulf.”
