Face

I drew this picture about 2 years ago. With the help of a few magazines and my imagination, I created a rather plain but beautiful woman. Now this picture may look pretty boring and you are probably wondering what significance this drawing could have on my life. Well, I never really showed it to anyone until about 6 months after I drew it. I showed it to my friend who absolutely adored it, and asked me if I could draw another picture for him.

This gave me a lot of confidence and I later showed it to my parents. They were impressed. I had also created many other pictures after this one, and so I showed my mother and father them, and they loved them too.

So, inspired by everything around me and inside me, I began creating. I never really judged my pictures. I just drew them, and if I liked them, they went on my wall. I loved all my drawings, so I guess you can imagine what my walls look like. But the one which remained pride of place was this one, which I had simply called 'Face'.

Every time I needed a little inspiration, I'd glance at the simple lines and I was away. I don't know why it helped. Maybe it was because this girl could be anyone. She didn't necessarily have to be white either. She could have easily been black, Asian or Spanish. Whatever it was it was certainly helping. 'Face' had become my muse.

So, last year I applied for a performing arts school, obviously choosing Art, Media and Design. At the interview I showed 'Face' and the paintings and drawing inspired by it. I also showed some variations of 'Face' where I had used computer software to change the colours etc of the drawing. The teachers were overwhelmed by it, and a few months later I received a letter saying that I got in.

I was really pleased with myself for this great feat and so were my parents. I even think my brother was a bit!! So I guess the moral of the story is that you can achieve anything you want. I mean, 3 years ago, I could have never imagined myself going to a performing arts school. I'd even guess that I was ashamed of showing my pictures to anyone. You didn't want to be creative at my old school - you had to be clever. But I have risen above the rest now. Everyone is always showing off his or her work at my new school. And everyone loves mine. I owe it all to 'Face'. Thank you.

  • That is a great inspirational story of having a great talent and making the most of it! The "face" is a great looking piece and I can't wait to see more of your work! Thanks for sharing the art and the inspiration!
