One, a girl, was born on a snowy morning in January. The other, a boy, was born on a scorching day in May. Cousins by chance, best of buds by choice. Many people who happen upon them joke that they look like twins but act like day and night. How right they are. She is fiesty where he is quiet.
He lives behind his eyes, watching and computing every detail. She kicks and screams and MAKES things happen her way. She is his protector, holding his hand and helping him stay up when he toddles, as toddlers do, and she watches his every move. After scarcely taking another breath she is tearing her toys from him telling him "No, MINE!"
She will bend his fingers back in a fit of rage when he tries to drink from her cup. She calls him a crybaby. He pulls her hair when he is so frustrated that his baby babbling will not do anymore. For as much fighting and arguing as they do, which for children is not much, they are closer than words could begin to describe.
They look at each other and they know. They conspire and they dream and they play and they learn and often, they do not have to say a word. It is not puppy love, for sure. It is the pure, unadulterated love that only a child can know. It is two bodies with one soul, two hearts that beat as one. Night and day, the moon and the sun. They light up each other's lives and everyone who is blessed to get to have them in their life.
