I thought I had to work on Father's Day and took my son over to my dad's house earlier in the week. They have a good time together and I love to watch them interact.

My little boy happened to spy this old bank on the mantle. He asked about it and my dad had him bring it on over so he could show him how it worked. They played with the bank for at least a half hour, trying different things. Two pennies, one in front of the other, one on top of the other. Three pennies. Snapping fingers occasionally and laughing frequently.

Watching them, with my dad being so patient, I'm reminded of how it was with him when I was young. Sure, my dad has aged and mellowed, but he's still the same man I remember from my childhood. Well, with less yelling, more smiling, and a slightly more generous with his affection.

I'm glad I took my son over to see his Papa. They had a lot of fun playing with that bank.
