The Beautiful Ones

Every picture tells a thousand words? This one tells a million - I had five girls chattering on in my ears as I took this. But what do you expect? It's a girls changing room and girls are meant to be beautiful. Beauty is an art. It's not my art, my art is photography. It's not even the subject's art, her art is, well, art. But most of us feel the need to look beautiful, to make ourselves look beautiful. To feel that tiny bit better about ourselves. Which is good, I guess.
So beauty is only skin deep? Yes, that is true in a certain sense; I mean our internal organs aren't exactly my idea of beauty. But I have met the most wonderful people in my life with the most beautiful minds, and they are pretty on the outside too.
However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so we all have our different opinions on what is beautiful and what isn't. The world today is so wrapped up on being gorgeous that sometimes we forget about what truly is beautiful. A sunset. A flower. The ocean.
So is the subject really trying to be beautiful or is she just simply putting her hair into place after it had fallen apart? How many times had she re-adjusted it and had not been satisfied?
I often like to create my work before I think about a meaning. My theme is reflections, and I desperately searched for anything that cast a reflection just so I could get a good grade for the project. I used spoons, toasters, windows and even car wing mirrors. This photo is the most natural photo I took. It was the last one on the film and it was my last moment of inspiration.
Oh, and I bet you're wondering about the girls that were chattering in my ears. Well, don't worry; they soon got a piece of my mind for disturbing my beauty - photography.

How true, how true.
