It was a pleasant evening in October when we arrived at our cabin in the Turtle Mountains........The colored leaves of fall lay thick upon the ground.......The sun was getting lower in the southern sky, as darkness comes earlier in Canada this time of year......We are blessed with dramatic changes of seasons.........Soon the daylight hours will be shorter than the darkness.....
The air was cooling off a little more as we sat on the deck overlooking the lake, marvelling at the clear blue sky with its millions of sparkling spots of light, making little streaks in the water....
Inside the fire was all but out when we curled up for a pleasant nights sleep. The perfect silence of the night was broken only by the hoot of a great Grey Owl looking for an unsuspecting rabbit for its evening meal......
The morning light streamed in beckoning us to greet the day......As we peered out the sight was breathtaking.....Nature had transformed our world into a winter wonderland.....A blanket of white had fallen while we slept covering every vestige of summer.....The tree branches were covered with snow unlike the colored leaves of a few weeks earlier....the green grass was no longer to be seen under its covering of white.....Only the tracks of a nocturnal creature marked the carpet of snow while we slept....
This was just a taste of what we can expect in two or three weeks when winter sets in and much more snow piles up around our home.....The air will become bitterly cold....The snow will crunch under our feet as we enjoy our winter activities....After Christmas the sun will gradually climb higher in the southern sky and daylight will last longer each day until it is warm enough for the snow to melt again and the spring season to begin......That is now and spring is here !
