Snowflakes at my house

Here it is, the first day of spring 2004, all of a sudden the rain stops. I’m thinking uh oh, is this the calm before the storm. We do get our fair share here in north Louisiana, but this time something wasn’t quite right, no loud claps of thunder, no brilliant flashes of lightning, just a slight cool breeze. I eased apart my living room curtains, slowly opened the blinds and there they were, what a beautiful rare sight for us here, big ole, fat, puffy, white snowflakes, falling ever so gently to the wet ground below. Stacking one to another, some melting as they collided with the warm water and others finding a place to make a stand and “stick” as we say here.
I hurried and grabbed my camera, ran out through my porch’s screened door, and hastily continued down the stairs, to stand in front of my two car garage. I looked back across my wet and snow covered driveway, to get just the right shot. I raised the camera, looked in the view finder and, (cursed)! Yea that’s right, I forgot the lens cover. Of course I’m thinking the whole time, hurry, hurry, hurry, before the big flakes stop. Well thank goodness they didn’t and I was able to take the picture.
Now that I reflect on it, seeing those huge snowflakes gently falling from the gray sky, covering my yard, the roof of my home, and the two big blooming Magnolia trees, I have a feeling it’s God’s simple reminder, that things do not always come at a preconceived or exact time, or the time of our choosing, but rather we should always be prepared at a moments notice, to capture the beautiful and precious things we have been blessed with in this lifetime. Enjoy those things and learn from them, so as this lifetime ends, we will be prepared for the other.
