Growing up is so difficult to do. In the course of growing up, we try on many different hats, so to speak. Through this trying on of hats, we determine who it is we would like to become. Be it a cowboy, chef, nurse, doctor, pilot, astronaut, teacher, or artist, we must explore and discover the world for ourselves.

The little boy in this photo seemed to personify the growth we all must undergo in order to become the people we are today. There are hope and promise and determination in the little bit of his face that appears on camera. He was so intent on exploring and experiencing everything he could that day, it was almost palpable. That gusto for life...and the potential of every day bringing a new adventure is something we seem to lose as we get older.

The "becoming" takes over and I think we lose the spirit and the thrill of the journey. When was the last time you felt that each day held a treasure just waiting to be discovered? Working with children, I get the opportunity to see that excitement and enthusiasm, that anticipation over undiscovered treasure reflected in the eyes of the kids. Every day holds unlimited potential for adventure and a big, brand new discovery. I try to catch a little bit of it and hold it in my heart. I eventually grew up and became a nurse, one of the many things I aspired to be as a child. What will the future hold for this little guy? What did the future bring to you?
